The Montaña Alavesa region is located in the southwest of the province of Alava, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria-Toloño.
Limestone mountains that rise above the plains of crops and leafy forests make the Montaña Alavesa a place which will surprise the visitor due to the contrasts of its landscapes. These natural areas are also home to a great variety of flora and fauna.
Within the region is located the Izki Natural Park, declared as such in 1998, which is home to one one of the most extensive areas of Pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica) in the whole of Europe.
There are also places of great landscape importance such as the Sierra de Cantabria-Toloño, the Sierra de Kodes and the Parzoneria of Entzia/Montes de Iturrieta, among others.
The region is markedly rural, where the preservation of traditional activities and processes has helped to preserve the ecological, landscape and cultural values of the area.
Tempting the visitor are medieval towns and beautiful villages between valleys and mountains, within the walls and towers of which are preserved palaces and stately homes, old churches and chapels – all bearing witness to the artistic-cultural wealth of the Montaña Alavesa.
